One of Blackpool’s most well known attraction (after The Blackpool Tower) is the Comedy Carpet, but one of the secrets is that the slabs that make up the carpet where made in my home town in Hull and the factory is five streets away from my place! The image you see is a ‘sample’ slab along with another slab cut in half and a placed in Hull’s Fruit Market, until today that the slabs have been moved to a location unknown (my garden if I had my own way and loads of £££). Maybe this connection and links to both citys have influenced me to love the Comedy Carpet in Blackpool forevermore!
A former fish-processing plant in Hull was transformed into a fully-functioning factory and a production team was duly recruited and trained up. After many months of research, with input from chemists and engineers, the team evolved new techniques and recipes for production, including a special white concrete mix and creating the perfect blue that wouldn’t fade.
